And the Beat Goes On

At the start of the day I heard an old Traffic song (Steve Winwood) on the radio "Low Spark" so how could today not be a great day, right? But, we couldn't get out of Topeka fast enouugh; the weather started to look threatening and with it being a Monday, the town was still deserted. There was so few people downtown that Andy managed to make a left hand turn from the right hand turn lane with only having to wait for one car to go through the light.

One thing that we have noticed driving through the Plains is the amount of standing water in the middle of crop fields as well as all bodies of water are over their banks. I guess we picked the right week to come through!!! Another thing we have noticed is how the land is so flat and then all the sudden a hillside appears but, all the farm land is gorgeous.

Another rest stop has been adeed to the top of our list and not b/c of the toilets! There was a HUGE Pet Area that was big enough to through ball with the Chuck - it (tennis ball launcher) for Hogan. We also noticed a very funny sign that said "No smoking on the grounds except for in enclosed personal vehicles"

I have come to realize that every major town we go to is getting smaller and smaller; maybe this is gods way of preparing me for Kodiak, population of 12,000. The temperature was great today; I never saw the thermometer get over 83 degrees, again maybe it is Devine Intervention.

Tomorrow we are headed to The Bad Lands and Mt. Rushmore.

Lots of love

  4. Reading all of this makes me more and more homesick! Flat lands where you can see for miles, farm lands with a "mini hill". *sigh*

How's the humidity been? It should be almost non-existant?
